Time Frame:  Generally, 3 weeks from

payment to delivery due to back log or burn out.  Actual creation takes a minimum of 6 days for the average sign.  Small signs can take less.

Back:  3 to 4 layers of exterior primer and sealer.

Front:  Up to 8 layers of primer, paint, and UV sealers.

Note:  Exterior stains must set for 48 hours before sealing.

Wood:  The default wood used is spruce.  Boards are biscuit glued together as necessary.  Larger signs have braces glued and nailed on the back of the sign to prevent warp age.

Poplar:
When you see a house that is at least 50 years old with wood siding.  It is probably poplar.  Yes, it holds up very well.  Further, it produces a cleaner cut and allows more intricate carving than spruce.  The grain is often multi-colored like cedar which has red and blond streaks.  However, poplar is primarily gray but often has large BLACK and GREEN streaks.

Painted Poplar (finger-jointed poplar):
A piece of this poplar, produced by the manufacturer, is made by gluing several 8" to 24" scraps together to create a board 8' long.  The joints are called finger-jointed because each end of each scrap is routed to look like fingers.  The fingered joints of the scraps fit together to create a solid joint.  I call it Painted poplar because it is so ugly that it has to be painted.  The price of painted poplar is equal to s/h.

Clear poplar:
Each board is one piece of wood that was cut from one tree.  In spite of its color, it is possible to find boards that are all gray for staining purposes.  Obviously, it is more expensive than finger-jointed poplar at twice the price of s/h.

Ordering:  Send an email or fill out the order form describing your sign.  Make sure that your email address is included.  In return, you will receive a design for your consideration.  No payment is accepted until you are pleased with the design.  If you do not receive a design, it may be in your spam folder or you may not have provided the correct email address, or it was a  goof.  So holler, call, or send another email.

Cumberland Tea Company has a secretary, receptionist, sales person, designer, carver, painter, sander, woodworker, packager, data entry person, database manager, programmer, web designer, and janitor.  That's a lot of work for an old lady.  No wonder I'm slow.

The company name is nostalgic.  One afternoon, my daughter called me to tell me she had purchased a plate with orange and brown flowers made by Jewel Tea Company.  I told her that Jewel Tea did not make dishes.  It was a gimmick to sell groceries.  Many years ago, we didn't have major food stores, just mom and pop corner grocery stores every two blocks (walking distance).  For those who lived in the country, Jewel Tea came every week with can goods, flour, sugar, tea, and dishes.  If you can't remember that, ask your grandma.  Oh yes, I was carving on the Cumberland River bank the day she called and my uncle was a Jewel Tea salesman many years ago.
